The Crimson Forest
The Crimson Forest is an RPG where a player takes control of a hemomancer trying to recover a powerful magic artifact from a dangerous forest. This game showcases a unique game mechanic utilizing enemies as a resource.
The Gameplay
The Crimson Forest is a turn-based RPG where the player can attack, cast spells, defend, and use items. As the player progresses, the enemies will become stronger to create a game environment suited to the player's skill. A unique aspect to the Crimson Forest is the blood vial mechanic that will be discussed later on.
Spell System
The Crimson Forest uses a unique spell system within the combat. The player has access to four different spells: Blood Shield, Attack Infusion, Precise Shot, and Crimson Bomb. Blood shield increases the defense stat of a player. Attack infusion increases the attack stat of a player. Precise Shot is a damage spell with chance to deal double damage. Crimson Bomb is a damage that does large amounts of damage.
Blood Vial Mechanics
A player can only cast spells using 'blood vials'. Upon completion of combat, the player replenishes one of the empty 'blood vials' with the blood of the defeated enemy. Each blood type provides bonuses to the spell casted with it. Below are the currently implemented types:
Basic (Red): No additional affect
Brawler (Orange): Heals player a small amount
Dodger (Green): Adds a 50% chance to double damage
Giant (Blue): Increases overall power of spell
The level design
The level design of The Crimson Forest provides paths of exploration while reserving portions of the maps until proper qualifications are met. Red arrows are drawn to show the pathway intended for the player. Green indicates gates and the location for their keys. Blue indicates areas that are able to expanded into in order to create a longer gaming experience.
